Program Manager, Community Engagement

SC CTSI Role

Chaka is responsible for engaging diverse communities through programs such as, the Research Ambassadors Program, Our Community Our Health and Community Reviewer Training Program to address research barriers, associated health disparities and develop culturally impactful strategies and approaches to ensure that research initiatives meet real community needs.  She will collaborate with community partners, research faculty and SC CTSI colleagues to build sustainable relationships that nurture meaningful academic-community partnerships.

Professional Background

Chaka Dodson came to us from Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority where she supervised provider engagement and active contract management for homeless service agencies across Los Angeles County.  Chaka has a Master of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology.  Her educational research focused on understanding health disparities among underrepresented populations related to neuropsychology, HIV, substance use, social support, anxiety and depression.  

Interests

Outside of work, Chaka enjoys writing and performing spoken word poetry and stand-up comedy.
