SC CTSI Role
At the SC CTSI, Shannen oversees the Clinical Research Support Office and Clinical Trials Unit at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles. Shannen works closely with division heads and Saban Research Institute to provide research support to investigators conducting clinical research at CHLA. Shannen leads the Clinical Research Support Office where she trains and educates clinical research coordinators and then contracts them out to investigators.
Shannen also manages the Clinical Trials Unit at CHLA which is a nursing unit designed to provide clinical care to research patients.
Shannen is the SC CTSI Trial Innovation Network Liason lead at CHLA and works to increase collaboration as well as industry sponsored trials.

Professional Background
Shannen has been a pediatric nurse for almost 20 years. She was an inpatient nurse at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati, Ohio before entering into research. Shannen has worked on research studies in the pediatric ICU, Allergy, pulmonary, the neonatal ICU and rheumatology. She specialized in research involving children and adolescents with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus and led a team of research coordinators involving lupus until being recruited to CHLA. Shannen holds research certifications from both the Association of Clinical Research Professionals (ACRP) and Society of Clinical Research Professionals (SOCRA).
Interests
Education and fundraising for a rare cancer called Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma.
