Thao is responsible for all aspect of patient and research-related care, acting as a liaison between patients’ personal physician and research studies, supporting all phases of research studies, and being part of CTU operations and management. Some of her duties include providing general and preventative care, performing physical exams and clinical assessements per protocol, prescribing medications, monitoring and managing patient’s response to treatment per protocol, managing data collection, coordinating patient recruitment, and providing input for initial protocol design to completion of study.

Thao is originally from California, but has been studying and working on the East Coast for 10 years before coming to SC CTSI. She earned a bachelor’s of science in biology at UC Davis, followed by a bachelor of science in nursing from Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing (JHUSON).
After graduating from JHUSON, she worked as a registered nurse on a surgical floor, taking care of urology, thoracic surgery, and general surgery patients. She started attending school part-time to obtain her master of science in nursing to be an Adult Gerontological Primary Care Nurse Practitioner. While attending school and working as an RN, she worked as a research and grant assistant for JHUSON.
Her first position as a nurse practitioner was at Medstar Washington Hospital Center in Washington D.C., working as an interventional cardiology nurse practitioner for over a year before working with Yale New Haven Hospital – Northeast Medical Group, where she was a geriatric nurse practitioner and provided care for patients at their home, the geriatric assessment center, or the primary care clinic.
Outside of work, Thao enjoys being a foodie, outdoor activities like hiking and rafting, travelling, art, music, binge-watching shows and movies on Netflix, and spending time with family and friends.
