SC CTSI Role

As the Director of the D&I program, Dr. Ko's role is to create training and resources to bring D&I methods, frameworks, and tools closer to translational science researchers. The D&I program will have a natural synergy with a number of cores including Community Engagement, Healthcare Delivery Science, Team Science and Workforce Development, among others.

Professional Background

Dr. Ko is a Professor and Vice Chair for Research at the Department of Family Medicine at Keck School of Medicine. She also has a joint appointment as Professor in the Department of Population and Public Health Sciences.

She received her PhD in Health Behavior and Health Education at the University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health. She was the recipient of the Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, R25 pre- and post-doctoral fellowships. In 2015, she was selected as a fellow of the Mentored Training for Dissemination and Implementation Research in Cancer. This R25 fellowship administered by Washington University in St. Louis was the first D&I research training in cancer. 

Prior to her move to USC, Dr. Ko was a Professor and Associate Chair of Research in the Department of Health Systems and Population Health at University of Washington. She was also the Co-Director of the Community Engagement Program at the Institute of Translational Health Sciences (University of Washington CTSI). Her main research interest is to conduct research that accelerates translation of vital research into useful tools and resources for clinic and public health impact.

Interests

I love spending time with my family of six; my husband Eric, two kids (Karen and Andrew) and two adopted cats, Sunburst and Cloud Fur. I am also a self-proclaimed foodie and cannot have enough empanadas, dumplings, and mandu.
