Homelessness continues to rise nationally, particularly in Los Angeles, where prevention strategies remain underdeveloped. This project explores the self-storage industry as an innovative, large-scale intervention partner to identify and support individuals at risk of housing loss during major life transitions, leveraging these spaces as key points of early engagement.
Specific Aims:
- To build a multidisciplinary, cross-sector team that includes researchers, self-storage industry partners, service providers, and implementation experts to address homelessness prevention.
- To develop collaborative partnerships and shared strategies for identifying at-risk individuals and connecting them to supportive services through the self-storage ecosystem.
The team includes multidisciplinary experts in social work, health policy, behavioral science, and implementation research, alongside partners from the self-storage industry, homelessness service providers, and organizations specializing in service delivery platforms and public-sector collaboration.
Team Building Activities include:
- Monthly Meetings: The team conducts regular meetings with stakeholders to build relationships, align goals, and develop shared understanding across sectors.
- Team Roundtable Conference: The team convenes a multi-stakeholder roundtable to foster dialogue, build a collective vision, and plan a future collaborative research initiative.
