This project aims to build a multidisciplinary, multi-sector team to culturally adapt the CAPABLE evidence-based fall prevention program for older Chinese and Korean Americans with limited English proficiency (LEP). The goal is to develop a systematic model for culturally responsive intervention adaptation and delivery through PACE programs serving underserved populations.
Specific Aims:
- To build a multidisciplinary team across academia, healthcare systems, national experts, and community stakeholders.
- To develop a culturally and linguistically adapted fall prevention model based on CAPABLE for older Asian Americans with LEP.
The team integrates expertise in gerontology, social work, occupational therapy, implementation science, and community-based care, alongside national CAPABLE experts and local PACE providers and stakeholders.
Team Science Activities include:
- Multidisciplinary USC Research Team Building: The team establishes collaborations, develops a grant application, and builds a track record of teamwork while engaging in ongoing coordination and joint activities.
- Connections with National Experts: The team consults with national experts in CAPABLE and cultural adaptation/implementation science to guide intervention adaptation, study design, and implementation strategies.
- Landscape Assessment in Local Communities: The team conducts focus groups and interviews with older adults, family members, and healthcare/social service professionals to assess feasibility, acceptability, and inform cultural adaptation of the intervention.
