Following the format of mentorship training from the Center for the Improvement of Mentored Experiences in Research (CIMER), the Mentor Training Program (MTP) at CHLA provides a three-part, virtual training series covering topics related to the mentor-mentee relationship. The course competencies include: aligning expectations, cultural humility and belonging, cultivating ethical behavior, fostering independence, and promoting professional development. MTP will be offered twice each academic year.
The purpose of the course is to:
- Facilitate research mentor training for mentors at all career stages
- Develop a network of mentors in the CHLA research community
- Improve the research mentoring relationship between mentors and mentees, and train high-quality research mentors to guide trainees and junior faculty to become successful, independent investigators
MTP is offered twice a year. Registration for Spring 2026 is now open. Please contact tecpad@chla.usc.edu with any questions.
Who Should Register for MTP?
The objective of the Mentor Training Program at CHLA/TSRI is to improve the research mentoring relationship through providing research mentoring training to individuals who serve or will serve in a mentor role. This program provides evidence-based training in an interactive format and will be offered to individuals at all career stages who are serving in any type of research mentor role (whether formally or informally).
Requirements for Completion
- Completion of all three sessions
- Interactive participation during the entire series, including cameras on and participation in small group discussions
- Completion of post-course survey
If the participant is USC faculty, the SC-CTSI will add a badge to the participant’s USC faculty profile to indicate they have completed mentor training.
