Community Outreach Coordinator, Community Engagement

SC CTSI Role

In her role as a community outreach coordinator, Alma works directly with Latinx communities surrounding USC and CHLA, facilitating a variety of educational workshops. She provides resources to empower underserved communities to be more conscious of their health. Her educational workshops help to remove the barriers that many communities face in deciding whether to participate in a research study by promoting health and scientific literacy among Latino communities. Alma uses popular education techniques to empower vulnerable communities to promote well-being and development for the achievement of individual and collective goals.

Professional Background

Alma has a teacher associate certification in early childhood special education from Cerritos Community College. She also has 20 years of experience working as a Promotora Comunitaria with a certification from Planned Parenthood, and 10 years of experience working on different projects and research studies with various organizations including, USC, UCLA, Kaiser Permanente, March Of Dimes, and others.

Interests

Alma enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and learning new skills that will benefit her work as a promotora. She also likes to learn about nutrition, exercise, and health.
