Beau MacDonald has been with the SC CTSI for more than a decade. Professional Background
Ms. MacDonald is the GIS Project Administrator for the Spatial Sciences Institute (SSI) at the Dana and David Dornsife School of Arts, Letters and Sciences at the University of Southern California (USC). She promotes the use of geographical information science (GIS) concepts and technologies for interdisciplinary synthesis; provides data analysis, geoprocessing, mapping, graphics, and writing support; and is experienced with environmental modeling, historical ecology, and cartography.
She collaborates with other human and population health groups affiliated with Keck Medicine of USC, including the Southern California Environmental Health Sciences Center, the ENIGMA-Environment Working Group, the USC CLIMA Climate and Health Center, and teams within CHLA, and leads graduate and undergraduate student researchers in the SSI Wilson Map Lab. She is trained as an applied biogeographer, holds degrees from UCLA and CSUN, and is a Women in GIS advocate with research interests that involve the resilience and sustainability of threatened or endangered communities that persist along edges and within the confines of built environments.
Interests
Her research interests involve the distribution, abundance, resilience, historical ecology, conservation, and sustainability of creatures and communities that persist along the edges and within the confines of built environments – including butterflies, birds, native plants, wetlands, vegetable gardens, and Angelenos.
