Professional Background

Dr. Siegel is Chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. He is a physician-scientist with an expertise in schizophrenia and psychosis. His experience will compliment that which already exists in the MCD-CTS program. Prior to coming to USC, he spent 20 years at the University of Pennsylvania, where he fulfilled a number of faculty roles. Most recently, he was a Professor of Psychiatry, Director of the Clinical Neurosciences Training Program, Director of the Translational Neuroscience Program in Psychiatry and Associate Director of the Clinical and Translational Science Awards Educational Programs and Masters in Translational Research at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School. His passion for signal processing related to EEG abnormalities in mental illness earned him a secondary appointment as a Professor of Bioengineering at the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering Arts and Sciences. Additionally, his laboratory has established new methods for the treatment of schizophrenia by inventing long acting biodegradable implants, now under development for clinical application.
