Professional Background

Dr. Pickering is an Associate Professor of Population and Public Health Sciences and Director of the MS Programs in Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Health Data Science at USC. He has more than 20 years of experience in study design and statistical analysis, collaborating on research in community health assessment, nutrition and exercise interventions, tobacco and substance use, mental health promotion and prevention, and strategies to improve the effectiveness of health-related interventions.

He works closely with investigators throughout the research process, from study design and grant development through data analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, and dissemination. His methodological expertise includes regression methods, longitudinal data analysis, social network analysis, and latent variable methods, including factor analysis and structural equation modeling. He is particularly passionate about helping investigators navigate the analytic process and translate their data into research findings that are meaningful, actionable, and can be disseminated.
