Hiring and Managing Trainees and Research Management Strategies

This presentation will discuss strategies for screening, hiring, training, and supervising trainees in a research laboratory in ways that are helpful to both the laboratory and trainee.

Learning Objectives:

  • To describe laboratory activities that are an appropriate “fit” between the trainee’s available time and skillset with lab needs
  • To identify trainee goals and meet them in ways that will support motivation and commitment to their work in the lab
  • To learn supervision techniques that will ensure the quality of trainee work and data
