We will develop and evaluate an automated, registration-based segmentation method for microCT images, which is adapted on our intra-subject registration-based method for adipose tissue segmentation from human MR images. An atlas will be developed by scanning a C57BL6/J ob/ob mouse, then manually segment the image. The result of this study will be methodology (scan parameters, registration and quantification software) for fully automated quantification of adipose abdominal tissue in mouse models and software which is available to investigators at USC and elsewhere for labeling of organs, providing the basis for automated quantitative analysis fo organ volume or coregistered functional imaging data from PET, fulorescence or bioluminescence scans.
