Our laboratory recently found that ivermectin (IVM), an FDA approved drug for other indications, significantly reduced ethanol intake in both male and female mice following acute IVM administrator. This pilot project marks the start of the translation from animal studies to humans for the use of IVM as a therapy for alcohol use disorders (AUDs). The results from this multidisciplinary pilot project will provide the first cliical evidence that IVM can be repurposed as a novel therapeutic agent to treat AUDs.
