θ-defensins are naturally occurring, cyclic octadecapeptides that have potent anti-inflammatory effects. We will test if these molecules have an ability to improve insulin resistance by suppressing inflammation in diet-induced obesity in rats. Positive results would provide a new class of molecules that can be developed as therapeutics for type 2 diabetes.
