We are studying how manipulations in inhaled oxygen concentration alter brain blood flow response in subjects with and without sickle cell disease. The goal is to understand why sickle cell disease patients damage neuronal connections (white matter) faster than the general populations. Ultimately, we would like to use our novel imaging techniques to identical preclinical vascular disease and monitor response to therapy.
