The GUARDIAN consortium seeks to understand the genetic architecture underlying insulin resistance and insulin clearance, phenotypes that contribute to risk for type 2 diabetes. GUARDIAN has completed a series of genome-wide association studies and have identified various loci across the genome that are associated with variation in insulin resistance and clearance; some also associated with type 2 diabetes. We will host a research retreat of GUARDIAN investigators and outside experts to review our results and seek their counsel on follow-up studies, while also potentially enlisting them as collaborators on the renewal of the GUARDIAN grant, which will be proposing follow-up studies of our genome-wide association results.
