The long-term goal for the project is to restore vision in blind patients suffering advanced retinal photoreceptor degeneration. We aim to develop nano-scale photovoltaic molecules to engineer light sensitivity in inner retinal neurons to elicit visual perception in blind patients. This approach eliminates the need for invasive surgery, foreign gene expression and has the potential to provide high visual acuity.
