This project seeks to demonstrate that RNA in maternal serum is a source of placental biomarkers. We will use RNA-seq to identify transcripts that are abundant in first-trimester serum of pregnant women and that are absent in the serum of non-pregnant women. We will perform bioinformatic analyses to profile the placental transcriptome during the first trimester of pregnancy.
