SC CTSI Director of Research Development awarded fellowship with Society of Behavioral Medicine
We sat down with Kayla de la Haye, PhD, who serves as the SC CTSI Director of Research Development to hear about a recent accolade – being awarded a fellowship with the Society of Behavioral Medicine. Congratulations to Kayla!
- Can you tell us a little bit about the Society of Behavioral Medicine? What is its mission and goals?
The Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM) is a professional society that is all about improving health and wellbeing through interdisciplinary research, education, and practice in behavioral medicine. It brings together experts from psychology, medicine, public health, technology, and policy to figure out how behaviors—like healthy eating, exercise, and stress management—can help people live healthier, longer lives. - How long have you been involved with the Society of Behavioral Medicine?
For over 10 years, since I first joined USC! - What has being awarded this fellowship meant to you?
It’s a huge honor. Fellow status is SBM’s way of recognizing members who’ve made a lasting impact in behavioral medicine through research, teaching, and practice. Being included among scholars whose work I’ve admired since grad school is humbling and inspiring. - How do you anticipate this fellowship will impact your career?
SBM really lifts up its members and Fellows and empowers them. This fellowship opens doors for new collaborations, and support from the organization to ensure my science has real-world impacts. I'll have new opportunities to contribute to public outreach, policy briefs, and bridging academic and real-world applications, and I expect to learn a lot from a many talented people!
