Dr. Kenneth Yates Joins SC CTSI As Co-Director Of Education
Helping prepare clinical and translational researchers solve local, national, and global health challenges.
Dr. Yates is an associate clinical professor and the director of Academic Program Evaluation in the Rossier School of Education at the University of Southern California. He is also a clinical associate professor in the Department of Surgery at the Keck School of Medicine of USC.
“I am delighted that Dr. Yates has joined our team. He will bring leadership and expertise in educational methods that will be of great value as we develop online educational programs that reach throughout USC and beyond,” said Jonathan Samet, MD, director of the SC CTSI ECDE program.
Dr. Yates comes to the SC CTSI with extensive experience in developing training and evaluation programs. He also conducts research into new methodologies for application of cognitive task analysis (CTA) methods to improve human performance, instructional design, and educational technology. He has been an instructional media and technology consultant on a number of USAID-sponsored international training and development projects in Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, and Indonesia.
“The Rossier School has a long history of crossing disciplinary boundaries to prepare educators in health-related fields,” said Dr. Yates. “My role with the SC CTSI is a unique opportunity to help prepare clinical and translational researchers solve local, national, and global health challenges.”
In his new role, Dr. Yates will help lead in the development of innovative curricula for the TL1 and KL2 programs. He will also provide advanced methodologies for the training and evaluation of SC CTSI TL1 trainees and KL2 scholars. Dr. Yates’ experience will be key to the SC CTSI’s success in identifying key training opportunities in translational research and developing educational materials and approaches for those opportunities. His background in distance learning is directly aligned with the SC CTSI’s focus on the provision of educational content in distance and asynchronous formats. All of these skills will help the SC CTSI prepare and train the next generation of clinical and translational investigators.
