Background

Lara P. Nelson, M.D., is originally from Minnesota, and first came to California to obtain her Bachelors’ degree from Claremont McKenna College. She followed this with medical school at St. Louis University School of Medicine. Her post-graduate training included a combined residency in Pediatrics, Psychiatry, and Child Psychiatry at Brown University and a fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at University of Minnesota Medical Center. She returned to California when she joined the faculty at Keck School of Medicine University of Southern California and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) in 2010. She is the happy recipient of the Southern California Clinical and Translational Science Institute’s KL2 Mentored Research Career Development Award2012. She plans to use this award to develop her skills as a clinical translational researcher investigating the stress response of children and their parents following admission to the pediatric intensive care unit.
